Visit the Naples Pier During Your Vacation

No vacation to Naples is complete without a visit to the Naples Pier. This historic landmark is a must-see, located right on the Gulf of Mexico. With no shortage of things to do, sightseers can enjoy fantastic food, luxurious shopping, and even fishing! If you want to visit, consider staying at a Naples beachfront rental close to this historic landmark.

The History

The Naples Pier is a large part of the history of the city of Naples. Built-in 1888, the Naples Pier was vital in establishing the town. As the city developed, essential building materials and supplies were delivered to the town by boat to the pier in Naples. In fact, before the completion of Highway 41 in 1928, the only way outsiders could reach the city was by boat.

In the earliest days of Naples, the pier was an invaluable part of Naples’ infrastructure.

The Naples Pier is also one of the most resilient historic landmarks surviving hurricanes in 1910, 1926, and 1960. While the pier did undergo significant repairs after these natural disasters, it still stands today, serving as a fishing pier offering a wide variety of things to do in Naples, FL.

Fishing

Few places can match fishing in Naples, FL. Unlike most fishing destinations, the City of Naples offers a blanket fishing license, so all you need is a rod and reel, and you are free to fish.

With the lovely temperatures Florida experiences year-round, the Naples Pier is a fishing destination you can visit during any season. Home to mackerel, pompano, snook, and sea trout, there is no shortage of live bait or local advice you can get on the pier to help you fish off. Locals recommend using light spinning gear and live shrimp that you can get off the pier to get the fish biting.

Please note there are specific hours for fishing on the pier. Fishing is prohibited on Sundays all day, and it is also prohibited Monday thru Saturday from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am.

In addition to the fishing, the Naples Pier boasts one of the most beautiful sunsets you will ever see. There is nothing like watching the sunset over the Gulf after a long day of fishing.

Keep on the lookout for pelicans and seagulls, as they sit on the peer looking to try and scoop up any fish or live bait that gets away. Or, if you’re lucky, you may even see families of dolphins as they make their way along the shore.

The Beach

For all of the splendor of the Naples Pier, The Naples Pier beach is equally as incredible. Spanning 10 miles long, the beach offers a wide variety of activities. With several volleyball nets, you can usually find at least one or two games going on at a time.

An extremely family-friendly beach, parents will be glad to note that the beach offers a stand of child-sized life jackets for free rental. No strings attached; you borrow a life jacket while your kids enjoy the water and return it to the stand when you are done at the end of the day.

Directions & Parking

Located at the West end of 12th Avenue South, the Naples Pier is relatively easy to get to. There are some stipulations for parking that you should know about before you go.

Third Street South is the closest parking option to the pier, .3 miles away. The other options include Fifth Avenue South at 1.5 miles, Tin City at 1.5 miles, and Naples Bay Resort at 2 miles away.

You should pay a little closer attention when looking for parking at the beach. All the parking areas are well equipped with signage to ensure visitors do not park in the wrong location. There is plenty of parking to go around, so if the beach end has a sign that reads Beach Parking by Resident Only, do not park there if you are a tourist.

There are 14 beach ends with marked parking for visitors. When parking here, visitors must adhere to the beach parking rules. Some regulations include no littering on the beach, no glass, animals, or fires, and all parking spaces requiring a payment or beach parking permit.

All visitor parking is metered parking. Each pay station accepts quarters, Master Card, Discover, American Express, and Visa.
